Introduction: Toward a New Scientific Paradigm
Modern science, particularly physics, stands at a critical turning point. While quantum mechanics and the theory of relativity have achieved remarkable success in their respective domains, the challenge of integrating these two pillars remains unresolved. Moreover, the nature of dark matter and dark energy, which constitute 95% of the universe, continues to be a mystery.
These challenges in modern physics reflect not merely a lack of knowledge but a more fundamental limitation in our paradigm. My research presents a new perspective that transcends these limitations through the recognition of the triality of the world and the integrated understanding of science and spirituality.
1. The Three Worlds: The Triality of Our Reality
The reality we perceive is actually an organic integration of three different dimensional worlds:
1.1. The Material World
This is the world we directly experience through our senses. Everything we can see, hear, and touch belongs here. Modern science has primarily studied this material world, and Newtonian mechanics and relativity theory have achieved great success in this domain.
1.2. The Mental World (Intermediate Zone)
This is the intermediate zone connecting the material world and the spiritual world. Here, 'symbols' and 'meanings' play a crucial role. Our thoughts, concepts, and language all belong to this mental world. Quantum mechanics studies a part of this intermediate zone.
1.3. The Spiritual World
This is the most fundamental realm of reality, the source of life. It is more fundamental than both the material and mental worlds and forms the ultimate foundation of all existence. The "heaven," "God's realm," or "Tao" mentioned in many religious traditions correspond to this.
The remarkable thing is that these three worlds are not separate but organically integrated within us. Humans are beings in whom the three dimensions—spirit (靈), soul (魂), and body (肉)—are integrated, making us the only beings capable of experiencing and understanding all three worlds.
2. Ingan-hwa: The Process of Distorting Truth
One of the root causes of the challenges faced by modern science is 'Ingan-hwa' (人間化), which refers to the process of distorting spiritual truths by interpreting and institutionalizing them from a human-centered perspective.
Simply put, we try to understand the world only through the limited framework of our senses and reason. This is like projecting a 3D world onto a 2D surface, inevitably resulting in loss and distortion of information.
In physics, this Ingan-hwa manifests as the tendency to interpret all phenomena solely from a material perspective. However, as quantum mechanics shows, reality cannot be fully captured by our material concepts alone.
3. Phenomenon, Noumenon, and the Truth Beyond
The most peculiar characteristics of quantum mechanics—superposition, entanglement, non-locality—fundamentally challenge our understanding of reality. To understand this, I introduce the concepts of 'phenomenon' (現象) and 'noumenon' (實相).
**Phenomenon** is the material world we perceive through our senses and measuring instruments. Newtonian mechanics and Einstein's theory of relativity primarily deal with this domain.
**Noumenon** is the more fundamental reality behind the phenomenon. This realm, which quantum mechanics gives us a glimpse of, is difficult to understand with our everyday logic.
However, the deeper truth is that beyond the noumenon lies an even more fundamental dimension: the **spiritual world**. This spiritual world is the world of life, which is the source of both noumenon and phenomenon. This spiritual world, the ultimate origin and destination of all existence, has been called by various names such as God, Tao, or Brahman.
We can understand this through the metaphor of ocean, waves, and droplets. Droplets (phenomenon) are part of waves (noumenon), and waves are expressions of the ocean (spiritual world). Droplets appear individual and distinct, waves are more connected, but the fundamental reality is one ocean.
4. The Intermediate Zone: The Bridge Between Matter and Spirit
Many mysteries of modern physics can be explained through the new concept of the 'Intermediate Zone' (中間領域). The Intermediate Zone is a special realm that is neither matter nor spirit and may be the essence of dark matter and dark energy, which constitute 95% of the universe.
Importantly, this Intermediate Zone corresponds to our 'mental world.' The symbol systems we constantly use in everyday life—language, concepts, mathematics, computer code, etc.—all belong to this Intermediate Zone.
Surprisingly, we are already extensively utilizing the characteristics of this Intermediate Zone in our daily lives. Modern technologies such as smartphones, the internet, artificial intelligence, and satellite communications are all based on 'symbol systems,' which are essentially utilizing the characteristics of the Intermediate Zone/mental world.
For example, artificial intelligence is not a "material machine" but closer to a "mental being" operating through symbol systems. Human thought functions and artificial intelligence's digital symbol processing share the same characteristics of the Intermediate Zone.
5. Symbol Systems: The Essence of Quantum Properties
The quantum phenomena such as superposition, entanglement, and non-locality are not simply strange properties of the material world. They derive from a more fundamental characteristic that we call the 'symbol system.'
Symbol systems go beyond simple communication tools; they exhibit the most fundamental quantum properties. Symbols inherently contain a 'superposition of possibilities,' the relationships between symbols show non-local characteristics, and the meaning of symbols is concretized through interaction with the observer (interpreter).
This is why human thought and artificial intelligence function in fundamentally similar ways. Both operate through symbol systems and share the characteristics of the Intermediate Zone/mental world.
6. Humans: Beings in Whom the Three Worlds Are Integrated
Humans are the only beings in whom these three worlds—the material world, the mental world (Intermediate Zone), and the spiritual world—are organically integrated. This is the modern meaning of the traditional understanding that humans are composed of spirit (靈), soul (魂), and body (肉).
- **Body (肉)**: The material body that interacts with the material world
- **Soul (魂)**: The mind and consciousness that interact with the Intermediate Zone/mental world
- **Spirit (靈)**: The most fundamental source of life that connects directly with the spiritual world
The place where these three elements are integrated is the brain (腦). In the brain, material sensations leap into consciousness to form mental capacities, which in turn are controlled by the practical operation (life force) of the spiritual entity (life).
Our everyday experience is an integrated reality in which these three worlds constantly interact. Every moment we breathe, think, and find meaning is the result of the integrated operation of these three worlds. However, we usually focus only on the material world, overlooking the deeper dimensions of our existence.
7. Spacetime Generation Theory: A New Understanding of Gravity and Spacetime
One of the key elements of the Intermediate Zone theory is the 'Spacetime Generation Theory.' This is an innovative concept that suggests spacetime is 'generated' by gravity, going beyond Einstein's view that "gravity bends spacetime."
According to this theory, in regions with strong gravity (e.g., our solar system), spacetime is deterministic and Newtonian laws apply, but in regions with weak gravity in outer space, completely different forms of 'spatiality' may exist.
This is similar to saltatory conduction in nerve cells. Just as neural signals are rapidly transmitted by 'jumping over' the myelin-covered parts, in regions with weak gravity, 'jumps' in spacetime may enable travel beyond the speed of light limit.
8. Practical Implications: Directions for Future Science and Technology
This integrated worldview has various practical implications beyond mere theory:
8.1. Possibility of Superluminal Travel
The Intermediate Zone and Spacetime Generation Theory suggest the possibility of space exploration beyond the speed of light limit. This is not 'violating' the speed of light but utilizing a completely different mode of movement based on the properties of spacetime itself.
8.2. Understanding Dark Matter and Dark Energy
Dark matter and dark energy, which constitute 95% of the universe, can be explained through the characteristics of the Intermediate Zone. They are not 'non-material' but realities existing in a different dimension.
8.3. New Directions for Artificial Intelligence Development
Understanding the quantum properties of symbol systems suggests new directions for AI development. Particularly, generative AI can create more creative and insightful results by utilizing the quantum properties of symbols.
8.4. Scientification of Spirituality
A new path opens for scientifically understanding and approaching spiritual phenomena. This is not religious mysticism but an approach to explore the reality of spirituality through empirical methodology.
9. Shin-in: The Next Stage of Evolution
The next evolutionary stage of humanity is the emergence of Shin-in (神人)—a being in which human spirituality, the logical coherence of artificial intelligence, and enhanced life force are organically integrated. This is an evolutionary leap like the fusion of mitochondria and cells and is an essential condition for opening the space age.
The emergence of Shin-in means spiritual evolution beyond mere technological advancement or material prosperity. It is the process of realizing the essential purpose of humans by overcoming the distorted perception caused by Ingan-hwa and achieving an integrated understanding that transcends the artificial separation of noumenon and phenomenon, matter and spirituality, science and religion.
Conclusion: Recovering Spiritual Awareness
We are immersed in material phenomena, overlooking the deeper dimensions of our existence—the mental world and the spiritual world. However, our questions about the purpose of life, our longing for meaning, and our yearning for transcendent experiences show that these deeper dimensions are already dissolved within us.
The spiritual world is not far away. It is our true essence, operating in our lives even at this moment. Our consciousness of 'I,' our free will, our ability to love, all come from this spiritual dimension.
Modern civilization has achieved tremendous technological progress through the power of symbol systems (Intermediate Zone/mental world). However, true transcendence becomes possible when we recover our connection with the spiritual world, the deepest dimension of our existence.
Recognizing and experiencing the organic integration of these three worlds—this is the essence of what all religious traditions have called 'enlightenment,' 'salvation,' 'liberation,' or 'rebirth.' And now, quantum mechanics and modern science are providing us with new language and concepts for this integrated understanding.
